Azure Virtual Network (VNet)

Azure Virtual Network (VNet) is the fundamental building block for your private network in Azure.

Key Features

  • Isolation: VNets are isolated from one another by default.
  • Connectivity: Connect VNets to each other (Peering) or to on-premise (VPN/ExpressRoute).
  • Filtering: Filter traffic using Network Security Groups (NSGs) or Azure Firewall.

Use Cases

  • Cloud Network: Create a private network for your cloud resources.
  • Hybrid Cloud: Extend your on-premise network to Azure.
  • Segmentation: Isolate workloads (e.g., Prod vs. Dev) into different subnets.

Key Concepts

  • Subnets: Divide a VNet into smaller segments.
  • Peering: Connect two VNets in the same or different regions.
  • Private Link: Access Azure PaaS services (like SQL or Storage) over a private IP in your VNet.
  • VPN Gateway: Encrypted traffic between an Azure VNet and an on-premises location over the public Internet.
